Tokayev: It is necessary to promote the ideas of humanism and spiritual values

Speaking at the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, the President emphasized the importance of humanitarian ideas.

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev delivered a speech at the opening of the VII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions. In his address to the participants of the congress, he emphasized the importance of turning to humanitarian ideas and combating extremism.

“The pandemic crisis has hit emerging economies to a greater extent, perpetuating poverty and inequality, increasing global inflation. We are facing food shortages. At the same time, geopolitical confrontation between the world’s largest powers has intensified, leading to increased tensions in various parts of the world. Previous international security systems are collapsing on "Extremism and terrorism remain complex problems and threats. The energy crisis is also undermining achievements in carbon neutrality. We cannot afford to ignore these challenges," Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.

The President stressed that natural disasters associated with climate change have become more frequent in the world over the past few decades. The damage from them is estimated at about 3 trillion dollars. Mistrust, tension and conflicts have returned to international relations. To fight the challenges of our time, it is necessary to return to dialogue and cooperation, the President stressed.

"Kazakhstan has always advocated that differences be resolved at the negotiating table in the spirit of the UN Charter. Sanctions, threats of sanctions and the use of force will never lead to a solution to problems. At times like this, we must return to humanitarian ideas. They are always protected by traditional religions. Respect for human rights, respect for each other, mutual assistance, openness, justice, equality are just the pillars of the new security system. That is why moral authority and the voice of spiritual leaders are more important than ever today," Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev said .

The head of state focused on the fact that global problems cannot be resolved without a constructive dialogue and mutually beneficial cooperation. Kazakhstan has always supported and promoted the ideas of peace, global security and sustainable progress. These values are especially important now, in the digital age. World religions remain one of the ways to maintain peace and prosperity: the President recalled that the Koran, the Bible, the Torah and many other spiritual books have always been saturated with the ideas of humanism and peace. Now it is especially necessary to remember about eternal values.

"In view of the fact that we live in the digital age, it is necessary to systematically promote the ideas of humanism and spiritual values. We see how new technologies are radically changing human life. The pandemic has accelerated these processes. Digital communications, the Internet, social networks play a huge role, eliminating the boundaries between people all over the world. But at the same time with these positive elements, we see how society is decomposing under the influence of digital technologies. For many, the digital world has already replaced the real world, unfortunately," Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.
