The Constitutional Council adopted a decision on the appeal of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to consider the draft law "On Amendments and Additions to the Constitution" for compliance with the requirements established by paragraph 2 of Article 91 of the


"The draft law provides for the establishment in the Constitution of a single seven-year term of office of the President, as well as the introduction of amendments to Article 2 of the main law regarding the renaming of the capital of the country. Recognize the draft law "On Amendments and Additions to the Constitution" as consistent with the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, including the requirements established paragraph 2 of Article 91 of the Basic Law," the Council's decision reads.

The Constitutional Council considered that the proposal to establish a one-time seven-year term of the presidential mandate corresponds to the logic of the constitutional novels adopted at the referendum, aimed at preventing the monopolization of state power. This term will apply equally to all persons elected to the post of the highest official. Corresponding with it is the definition of a one-time eight-year term of office for judges of the Constitutional Court.
