Dombra players from Kazakhstan won the competition in Spain
Dombrists from Kazakhstan Temirlan Olzhabay and Yernat Nauryz won the “Instrumental Music” nomination at the Music Box International Contest in Spain.
Music Box, an international online competition for instrumental performers from all over the world, was held in two rounds. The Kazakhs successfully passed the first stage, impressing the jury with the performance of Niccolo Paganini's “Caprice No. 24” in the author's adaptation, Tengrinews.kz correspondent reports.
In the second round, the dombrists performed the soundtrack from the sensational series “Game of Thrones”, filming a competitive video clip. Instrumentalists from 36 countries took part in the nomination. Kazakhstanis managed to win the highest score.
As a prize, the musicians received a trip to an offline festival in Spain in May at the expense of the organizers, as well as an individual master class with famous music experts.
Dombrists met while studying at the Kazakh National University of Arts and in 2017 decided to create their own duet. Temirlan and Yernat began their concert activity within the walls of their native university. Together with their rector, Aiman Musakhodzhayeva, they traveled almost all over Europe.
They gained popularity after joint performances with Dimash Kudaibergenov at the I'm a Singer contest. Minister of Culture and Sports Aktoty Raimkulova has appointed dombrists as ambassadors of culture of Kazakhstan at the Tokyo Olympics.
Temirlan Olzhabay and Yernat Nauryz have already won such awards as the Bridge TV award in the Best Instrumental Duet nomination, they won first place at the Golden Time Talent international festival, and also took part in the Costa Brava Music festival in Spain.
