In Atyrau, oil workers drilled a horizontal well 1 km long
Today it is considered the longest horizontal well in the group of companies of KazMunayGas JSC NC, ATPress.kz reports with the reference to the press service of Embamunaigas.
According to the press service of Embamunaigas JSC, in recent years the company has been actively introducing horizontal drilling at its oil and gas fields. It is generally believed that this technology allows the development of hard-to-recover oil reserves of the Emba fields, the peak of which took place many years ago. According to Kairat Kozov, Managing Director for EMG Development, the company closely monitors the development of advanced technologies in the oil and gas industry, and after study and pilot development, introduces them into its production activities.
At the same time, K. Kozov stressed that drilling horizontal wells has many advantages and allows replacing a large number of vertical wells with one borehole. With this technology, the volume of harmful emissions into the environment is significantly reduced. It also extends the "life" of fields by involving hard-to-recover oil reserves in the development. The efficiency of drilling horizontal wells in the Emba fields has been proven. Their productivity is 8-10 times higher than vertical wells, so in 2021 it is planned to drill only horizontally.
In total, in recent years, 14 horizontal wells have been drilled in the Emba oil fields, of which the last well drilled in the Gran field (Zhaiykmunaigas NGDU) has a horizontal section length of 1 km, which is the longest well in the group of companies of NC KazMunayGas JSC. The general contractor for the construction of the well was the domestic company KazMunayGas Drilling & Services LLP in tandem with the directional drilling subcontractor Schlumberger Logelco Inc.
